Xagent vs n8n
n8n is a workflow automation platform where you build each workflow on a visual canvas, add code where you need it, and can host a Community Edition yourself. Xagent is an AI agent platform where you describe a task in plain language, and it writes the plan and runs it with tools. Pick n8n to own every step. Pick Xagent to hand over the outcome.
When n8n fits and when Xagent does
n8n suits technical teams who want to build and own every step. Xagent suits teams who would rather describe the outcome and let agents plan the steps.
Choose n8n when
- You have people who build automations and want control of every branch. n8n offers code steps in JavaScript or Python, and you can re-run the one step that broke.
- The process is fixed and runs at volume. A workflow you draw and test once suits steps that never change, and n8n bills each run of the whole workflow as one execution.
- You want to host it yourself with the Community Edition, or you want a human approval step on tool calls, which its pricing page lists.
Choose Xagent when
- The people who own the work are not the people who build automations. You state the outcome in plain language and Xagent writes the plan, with no diagram to draw first.
- You want to see the work as it happens. Every tool call and result is visible while a task runs, with the token count, and you can pause a running task.
- The work repeats but changes. Save a task as an agent, run it again, schedule it, or start it from a webhook or a new Gmail message.

How n8n prices
Its pricing page prices by monthly workflow executions and says every plan includes unlimited users and workflows. On n8n Cloud, Starter is €20 a month billed annually for 2,500 executions and Pro is €50 a month for 10,000 executions. Business is €667 a month for 40,000 executions on a licence you host yourself. Enterprise is contact sales. The page shows euros, and Xagent's prices are in US dollars.
An execution is one run of a whole workflow, however many steps it has, so n8n says usage is easier to predict than billing for each step. It also offers a Community Edition that you host yourself at no licence fee, and a trial of its Cloud plans, according to its documentation.
On public price n8n is lower to start: €20 a month, against US$59 a month for Xagent Pro. The units differ too. n8n bills runs of workflows you built, and Xagent bills actions, triggers and AI credits for tasks it plans, so we do not rank them. Hosting n8n yourself adds your own setup and maintenance, which its documentation lists as your responsibility.
Full plan details are on the Xagent pricing page.
How Xagent and n8n compare, question by question
| Question | n8n | Xagent |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A platform for "agents and workflows you can follow", in its own words. | An AI agent platform by Xinference. |
| Who builds the workflow | You do, step by step on a visual canvas, with code where needed. Its Assistant, in preview, can plan and build a workflow from a chat request. The result is a normal workflow you open and edit. | Xagent does. It writes a plan for each task, shown as an execution graph with one card for each step. |
| How you start | A blank canvas, a template, or a request to the Assistant. | A plain-language request, or a template such as support chatbot, inbound leads or inbox manager. |
| Where it runs | n8n Cloud, or self-hosted with Docker and other methods. The Community Edition is free to host. | Xagent cloud. Self-hosted is available on the Enterprise plan. |
| Integrations and MCP | Native integrations, custom API calls, and MCP Client and MCP Server Trigger nodes. | Native connectors for Google, Microsoft, Meta and LinkedIn. Other systems, including internal ones, through MCP servers. |
| Models | "Connect any model", in its words. | Open models and API providers, including any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, or models self-hosted through Xinference. Don't see the model you need? Talk to us about adding it. |
| Pricing model | By monthly workflow executions. Every plan includes unlimited users and workflows. | By plan, in USD. Pro US$59 a month, Team US$299 a month, Enterprise talk to sales. |
| Best for | Technical teams who want to build, test and own each workflow. | Operations, marketing, sales and support teams who want to describe the work and get a result back. |
A late-delivery alert that calls a workflow you already built
An operations coordinator at Ironbark Supplies has an n8n workflow that looks up carrier status. She wants an agent to use it.
- WebhookStarts the taskPasses the booking number from the booking system.
- PlannerWrites the planShows the steps as cards before anything runs.
- MCP serverRuns the carrier lookup workflow built in n8nReturns the carrier status and the new delivery date.
- GmailFinds the last thread with the clientReturns the last message and who sent it.
- GmailDrafts the apologySaves a draft that includes the new date.
Can Xagent and n8n work together?
Yes. Keep fixed, high-volume pipelines in n8n. Give the open-ended tasks, such as triaging an inbox or researching a lead, to Xagent agents.
n8n's MCP Server Trigger node makes n8n workflows available to MCP clients. Xagent connects other systems through MCP servers, so an agent can call a workflow you have already tested in n8n. In the other direction, an n8n workflow can start an Xagent agent through a webhook trigger or the API. Our guide to connecting your systems through MCP has the details.
Moving from n8n to Xagent
You do not have to move everything. Start with the workflow that keeps growing branches.
Pick one workflow that needs judgement
Choose a flow where the next step depends on reading context, such as triage or research. Write what it does in a few sentences.
Connect the tools and paste the job
Use the native connectors, or an MCP server for any system you reach through n8n today. Paste the job as a request and read the plan Xagent writes.
Save it and keep the fixed flows in n8n
Save the result as an agent, add the schedule or webhook, and leave your fixed pipelines where they are.
n8n alternatives: Xagent and n8n frequently asked questions
Is Xagent or n8n better for a team that builds its own automations?
If you have people who like to build, test and own every branch, n8n is a strong fit and the more direct tool. Xagent suits teams where the people who own the work would rather describe the outcome. Keep fixed pipelines in n8n and give open-ended tasks to Xagent.
Is Xagent a no-code n8n alternative?
Yes, for teams who would rather not build workflows. You describe a task in plain language, and Xagent writes the plan and runs it with tools. n8n now also has an Assistant, in preview, that builds a workflow from a chat request, and the result is a workflow you open and edit.
Can I self-host Xagent like n8n?
Yes, on the Enterprise plan. The Pro and Team plans run on Xagent cloud.
How is pricing different?
n8n charges by monthly workflow executions, from €20 a month on Cloud as of October 2026. Xagent plans set users, actions and triggers, and AI credits per month, from US$59 a month for Pro.
Can I use n8n's Community Edition in my business?
n8n's licence file says its code is under the Sustainable Use License, which allows use for your own internal business purposes or non-commercial use. Read the terms before you build a product on it.
Does n8n have AI agents too?
Yes. Its pricing page lists an AI Agent node, MCP client and server nodes, and an Assistant in preview. The difference is that you end with a workflow you open and edit. In Xagent the plan is written for each task.
